What’s the BEST Bitcoin hardware wallet? Honestly… it depends how much of a degen you are with your backups

I’ve used both Ledger and Trezor over the years. Started with Trezor, then switched to Ledger for the sleeker UI and mobile support. Felt like a good move… until the whole Ledger Recover thing dropped and everyone lost their minds. Not gonna lie, that spooked me too

I get that technically, private keys can be extracted from most hardware if someone has enough access, but the way Ledger marketed “your keys never leave the device” and then turned around and basically said “well… unless you opt into this recovery thing” was just bad optics. The trust broke, even if the tech didn’t

Now I’m back on Trezor, but even then, I’m paranoid. Like yeah, it’s open source, but nothing is bulletproof. And tbh, most people I know don’t lose crypto from hacks they lose it from being sloppy with seed phrases.

One guy I know stored his phrase in an old phone note app… that phone died. Another wrote it on paper, then tossed it during spring cleaning. Another used a “clever” password for his wallet file and forgot it two years later. That’s how people get wrecked

That’s actually why I started looking into recovery options. Came across KeychainX, and ngl, it’s good peace of mind knowing there’s someone out there that might be able to help if you ever fumble your bag. They’ve been doing wallet recovery since like 2017, no upfront fee, and don’t ask for your seed or sketchy stuff like that. Just your wallet file or device and some password clues, and they try to brute force it

I haven’t needed them (yet), but I keep their name bookmarked just in case. Especially with how many wallets I’ve had over the years Multibit, Metamask, Electrum, all that ancient stuff. So yeah, best hardware wallet? Honestly, the one you’ll actually back up properly. And if you’re prone to forgetting passwords or moving too often, maybe also have a backup plan for your backup plan.
