What Really Matters To Me When Choosing a Token

I’ve thought about this a lot, always comparing two major things hype or utility when picking a token. I’ve been around long enough to see both sides play out in different ways. There’s the kind of hype that flips small bags into noise overnight, and then there’s the slow, quiet utility that barely anyone talks about until it suddenly becomes the thing everyone wishes they’d paid attention to earlier. Both can work. Both can burn you too.

When I first got into the market, I was deep in the hype side. Tokens like the one from celebrities make me think of that phase. Not about what it does, but the feeling around it. Their community is always loud, the memes move fast, and when the chart starts running, it feels like lightning. But still short-lived. Once the excitement fades, people are left asking what’s really there, and most times, not much.

So for me now, it’s not really about choosing between hype or utility. Both play their role. Hype brings attention, it wakes people up. Utility gives the whole thing a backbone, something to fall back on when the trend dies out. If a project can’t live after the noise, it’s just another short story in a long market in my view.

These days, before I pick a token, I try to look for that balance. Can it hold people when everyone stops tweeting about it? Does it still make sense when the charts cool down? Because hype might make people show up, but utility is what makes them stay. And somewhere between those two, that’s where you usually find the ones that last.
