I hate putting my story out there, but I’m at a point where I have to drop my pride and try anything… not for me, for my son. About six months ago, my 6 year old and I started feeling sick, and what I thought would pass in a few days dragged on for months.

A little over a month ago, I noticed my bathroom wall near the shower starting to cave in, it felt mushy and paint was peeling.. I already knew what was happening being that we live in FL. I reported it to my landlords repeatedly, but nothing was done until I threatened legal action. When they finally sent someone out, they discovered a massiveeeeee leak behind the shower. It had been there long enough to create a VERY serious black mold problem (half of the home needs demo’d). They inspected further and found every room but one was riddled in black mold.

Because I’ve missed so much work from being sick, I couldn’t pay August’s rent. They agreed to take my security deposit as last month’s rent and let me out of my lease, but I have to be out by the 1st. I’ve been searching for resources near us, apparently unless you have 6 kids and solely live off the state, there is no help available.

I’m a single mom, a full-time UCF student, a part-time bartender, and I’m apprenticing as a public adjuster (unpaid) for another 4 months. I AM TRYING, trying everything I can, but I can’t do this alone anymore . This feels like my last chance to find help before we lose our home, and maybe more.
