I see more and more crypto ID projects and I keep coming back to one thing – biometrics. Things like fingerprint-secured wallets I understand, but now we’re getting iris scans (like with Worldcoin) and talk of “proof of personhood” as a new layer on top of blockchain identity systems.
Not gonna lie, it kinda creeps me out but also seems inevitable? I get the appeal of making Sybil attacks harder, reducing bots in governance, maybe even tying people to real identities without giving away all their personal info.
But I have to ask, how secure is this stuff really? If someone gets your private key, you can rotate it. If someone gets your eye scan, then what? Also, accessibility is a real thing. What about people with different biometric markers, disabilities, etc?
Not even talking about the price of projects like World with WLD, I get utility will only follow adoption, and that’s when price follows, but for the tech and utility behind it – is it credibly promising?
Curious what others think.
