$BUTTERFLY Here is the story of a brave young mother of a 10 Month child, Carleigh who faced significant health challenges following the birth her child. At their six-week postpartum appointment, their OB-GYN discovered a lump on their neck. Though initially thought to be benign, the doctor recommended further examination. An ultrasound revealed suspicious nodules on their thyroid, prompting a fine needle aspiration. During this procedure, their neck was numbed, and under ultrasound guidance, 11 needles were used to collect cell samples from various parts of the thyroid for cancer testing. The results confirmed papillary thyroid carcinoma, necessitating surgery to remove the thyroid. In March, she underwent their first surgery, but complications arose when their vocal cord was injured, forcing the surgeons to halt the procedure after removing only half of the thyroid to avoid further damage. Fortunately, the vocal cord healed, allowing a second surgery to successfully remove the remaining thyroid tissue. Post-surgery, pathology tests on the thyroid, nearby muscle, and lymph nodes confirmed the presence of cancer. She is now awaiting radioactive iodine treatment, scheduled after their daughter’s first birthday, as they are currently breastfeeding and will need to stop for the treatment.
