I just read about a cyber breach in the news where the hackers actually made a ransom demand to the company, calling for it to take certain actions (fire some employees, in this case) to keep its vast quantities of stolen data from being leaked. This sort of blew my mind because it wasn’t just the usual “pay the ransom” and wipe your hands of it; it felt like the hackers were attempting to make a spectacle out of this, or at least try to strong arm the company into doing as they wish.

Has that sort of thing become the new normal in cyberattacks? It seems like every week someone new gets smacked with a massive breach or ransomware event and now we have these soap-opera-tier ultimatums and public demands, too.uch a situation?
